PATH TO COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
At Inclusion NT we think it is really important that people with intellectual disability have opportunities to be leaders in their communities.
PATH TO COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP FOR PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY IN REGIONAL AREAS
The goal of the project is to have more people with intellectual disability in leadership roles across the Northern Territory.
We will do this by providing opportunities for people with intellectual disability to:
- Learn more about who they are.
- Think about who their community is.
- Develop leadership skills.
- Set leadership goals.
- Become a leader in the community.
- Support each other to grow as leaders.
Leadership Groups
As part of the project, Inclusion Northern Territory has set up Leadership Groups for people with intellectual disability in Darwin, Katherine, and Alice Springs.

Members of the leadership groups:
- Meet regularly.
- Do training together about leadership.
- Do a PATH Plan about their leadership goals.
- Are supported to connect to a leadership role in a community group or organisation.
- Have peer mentoring and support in their new role.
What is a PATH Plan?
A PATH Plan is like a map for your future.
It is a big poster with words and pictures about you and what you want.
PATH stands for Planning for Alternative Tomorrows with Hope.

Are you or is someone you know interested in doing leadership training like this?
We can now deliver blocks of leadership training to groups of people with intellectual disability.
The training is a series of 6 x 2-hour workshops, which can be tailored for each individual group.
We can deliver it from our office, or at a location of your choice.
After the training, each member of the group is invited to do an individual PATH Plan with a team of people who know them well, like family, friends and supporters.

Community Groups and Organisations
As an organisation, how can you get involved?
The next step of the project is to find community groups organisations where developing leaders can be supported in their leadership goals.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about how to include people with intellectual disability in leadership roles in your group or organisation.
Inclusion NT can support this by:
- Helping you to build skills and confidence.
- Connecting people together to learn and share practical strategies and tools.
There are 2 key opportunities we are offering as part of this project:
- PATH Plans for Community Groups and Organisations, with follow up mentoring.
- An invitation join our monthly online Community of Practice.
